A healthy diet and physical health

Your diet has a huge influence on your hair condition. You might have thought that this was never the case, but it is actually true. Therefore it’s best not to overlook the aspect of diet if you are thinking of progressing with keeping your hair healthy and nourished. Indeed, cosmetic hair procedures (e.g. dyeing or cutting), or other hair care products (e.g. shampoos, conditioners) can visibly influence the way your hair looks. Nonetheless, this doesn’t mean that you should always rely on such products. A healthy diet and lifestyle are closely linked to long term effects on your entire body – so they are crucial for your hair’s health and looks. Interestingly, a healthy diet is not only good for your hair but also good for your physical and psychological wellbeing. After all, if you look good and feel good, your mental health will also be in good shape! The question remains why is that? What’s so good about a good diet and how/why it impacts your body and general health?

A diet which results in healthy hair relies on substances and micro/macro elements that are good for your hair – it’s as simple as that. You may ask what these substances are, well consider some of those: fatty acids, (especially omega3s), vitamins (B6 and B12), folic acids, proteins and minerals (such as zinc, magnesium and iron) are key to keeping your hair healthy and nourished. A diet which is particularly rich in these substances and nutrients prevents you from losing your hair and makes them always appear sleek and shiny. Such healthy diet can also help you when you’re already suffering from hair problems (e.g. thyroid disease, alopecia areata, spot baldness etc.) and are on your way to recovery. Luckily, that’s not all. All the above-mentioned substances and nutrients are also good for your skin and nails, as well as your internal organs. For example, healthy fatty acids, oils and vitamins such as liver oil or vitamin B are known to have a positive impact on your heart and blood pressure. And that’s just one example out of many!

Healthy diet and hair condition

We can probably already establish that a healthy diet is crucial for your body, including your hair of course. If you really care about your hair condition, the way it looks and feels, then you should pay attention to what you eat. You will see that the long-term effects of your planned healthy eating habits will be revolutionary. So now that we’ve established this, what does healthy eating actually mean in practice i.e. what products should you consume and include in your everyday meals? First of all, you should start eating products rich in fatty acids, such as at fish, flaxseed oil, walnuts and almonds. Don’t forget healthy fats from products such as avocados and nuts. Most of all, try not to forget about fresh fruit and vegetables that are rich in essential vitamins, such as potatoes, spinach, bananas or citrus fruits. Lastly, don’t forget about protein, which you can find in meats, dairy products or other supplements.
